Questions?

We operate on a vet referral basis to ensure that every dog has had an assessment and been approved by the vet for treatment. We will liase with your vet after your initial appointment and send regular progress report. Your dog’s health and safety are first priority.

It will all start with a phonecall to discuss you and your dog’s needs. If you would like to proceed with Hydrotherapy or Massage we will make an appointment. We will then email you forms to fill out and ask you to return them and the completed vet referral form.

  • Give your dog a brush to remove loose hair
  • Toilet your dog before the session
  • Do not feed your dog for 2 hours before and 1 hour after swimming
  • Do not exercise before or after. The hydrotherapy session is a workout in itself
  • We will have a chat about about your dog’s history and then we will perform a postural, gait and palpation assessment.
  • After completing the assessments we will discuss your goals of treatment and then make a treatment plan. This plan will be reviewed monthly.
  • We will then fit a harness if necessary and introduce your dog to the treadmill.
  • PLEASE NOTE! If your dog is nervous or unsure we will take our time to build a positive relationship with them. Don’t be surprised if your dog spends the whole session just getting comfortable and confident with the process.
  • Sessions in the treadmill are between 6-8 minutes to start. It doesn’t sound like much but it is the equivalent to an hour’s walk for your dog! Progression through increased speed and duration is our aim.
  • We will then towel dry your dog, do a reassessment and discuss any homework required.
  • The initial session is approximately 1 hour.
  • Subsequent visits will be 30 minutes unless we are due for reassessment.

After the session we will send through the report to your vet and follow up with you to see how your dog recovered after their session.

Results vary depending on your pet’s condition/medical history, how many sessions they are having per week and their lifestyle. If your pet is coming to build muscle expect it to take a minimum of 8 weeks. We will perform regular progress updates so you can see the improvement. Some immediate effects of massage and hydrotherapy treatment can include improved mood, increased circulation, reduced pain, muscle relaxation, better sleep, endorphin release and a reduction in anxiety.
